IBM comes to town

 Wednesday Aug 6

On Wednesday it is back at City Hall with the big meeting that the IBM Philippines General Manager,  Mariels Winhoffer will be coming in to visit the mayor and also will be meeting with us for an hour or how long time permits.

Since there is limited space only one member of each team was able to attend the meeting with the mayor. James from LinKIT, Anne from the Traffic Team, Ioana from the Police Team and Sir Brian from Social Welfare. I was not there obviously but I was told that the meeting was very upbeat and entertaining!

We meet at noon and receive a warm welcome from Mariels who expresses appreciation for our presence in the Philippines and for the benefits of the program.  She is a very enthusiastic person, and gives us a brief history of her career; she has been with IBM now 29 years and she "bleeds blue". She has actually worked in the Office of the CEO as personal assistant to Sam Palmisano and was a natural fit to come back to the country, where she was born, to help with not only IBM Philippines growth but the growth of the country.  She believes the Philippines is a sleeping giant with wonderful resources. With 100 Million people who are naturally warm and improving education and infrastructure the sky is the limit for what they can do.

IBM is partnering with Universities and Large companies in The Philippines and has a strong presence in Analytics where it wants to be one of the growth engines for that business.

She loves the fact that we are out meeting so many people and stresses the personal growth aspect
of the Program. That we need to continue to try and stay connected with the country even after we leave.

Most of the team with Mariels(centre)

She takes questions and shares a lunch with us before she has to make the drive back to Makati...with traffic it will be at least a 2 hour trip so she has gone out of her to see us for sure!

Back to work in the afternoon.  The Police team continues with their training which we have 3 members of the Social Welfare Office attend. It is on Excel and Martin covers good ground on it.  Our clients were engaged and asked for additional files and info to work on. That was good to hear.

Worked in the office for the remainder of the afternoon and then the long commute home. Thought I would share a few commuting pics!

I was looking for the Apple Store

More Rush hour traffic

For me it was a quiet night....just went for a walk and grabbed a chicken snack at Bon Chon before heading back for the night.  Just needed to catch up on some tasks and this blog.

Early night.
