About Santa Rosa

May 1, 2014

More about Santa Rosa in The Philippines.  Santa Rosa truly looks like a very welcoming and vibrant city.  According to my new pal Cherokee Chamorro it's a real up and comer! Cherokee is a new Canadian working for IBM out of Vancouver.  He is a native Filipino from Quezon City and has been good enough to spend some time with me answering any questions and pointing out interesting things to know and see before the trip.

Santa Rosa is a city in the province of of Laguna, Philippines. The city lies 38 kilometres (24 mi) south of Manila  making it a suburban residential community of Metro Manila. According to the 2010 census, the city has a population of 284,670

Santa Rosa was initially known for the Coca-Cola and Toyota manufacturing plants Recently, it has also become popular for being the site of Enchanted Kingdom, a local theme park, as well as several housing developments. I've never been to Disney....here's my chance!

My wife Annette has been following them regularly on their Facebook page and they always have something going on. Their mayor Arlene B. Arcillas looks like a very energetic leader.  The Philippines is considered very Equal Opportunity with many  women in high positions and this is a shining example.

Rare is the weekend where there is not some sort of an event or celebration so I think there will be tons to do with any free time on nights and weekends. Heck we might end up in a parade or a cooking contest!

Places to see that Cherokee recommended and further backed up on the Web:
  • Tagaytay (lake with dormant volcano ). Boat cruises to and from the volcano.
  • Boracay Beaches  (Voted #1 in Conde Nast ). Might be a stretch to get there; it looks beautiful!
  • Los Banos  (beaches close by and hot springs)
  • Chocolate Hills  (Tripadvisor Natural Wonder). Might be a stretch to get there.
  • Enchanted Kingdom ...if you are in to that!
  • Lots of golf close by at a reasonable price. Time may not allow it!
If we get in to Manila on a weekend or after the trip.

  • Mall of Asia is a must see. Tons of Shopping (and air conditioning)
  • Walking tour by Carlos Celdran.
  • Box one round with Manny Pacquiao  :-)

We will find out where we are staying and how we will be situated closer to the project date but there will not be a dull moment!
